Ok, easy course in editing in Movie Maker; I have the Vista version, but it shouldn't be that different for you if you don't.

1. Open it up and click 'Import Media.' Find your movie file, select it and click 'import.' It should appear as a thumbnail in the work area.

2. Drag it to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

3. To divide it up, click a point on the timeline, then click the 'split' button. This will split the movie at that point. Youtube seems to accept videos with lengths up to 11 minutes, but it's best to aim for ten or less.

4. Select and delete the part you don't currently want. Go to File > Publish Movie. Click though the screens that show up, the defaults are usually ok, though you might want to give it your own filename. Wait for a while while it publishes the movie.

5. Once it's done, hit undo a couple of times until you have the part of the movie you deleted before back. Delete the other part instead, then repeat what you did above.

If you're sizing it for Youtube, you're going to need to split it into four parts and publish each section seperately. It'll take a while, but it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

You can also post it to a file-sharing site like Rapidshare or Megaupload, but that would mean we'd all have to download it to our HDs and watch it, instead of just streaming it.

Personally, I can never get YouTube to upload my stuff. I once tried to post a skit for an Arabic class on YouTube, and it kept giving me errors, and even when it successfully uploaded, there were screwy things about the video quality. I had the same problem when I tried to upload a piece of a movie for my thesis presentation. I'm not sure what I keep doing wrong.

Ah. You're trying to export the wrong file; the files you create by saving in Movie Maker are 'project' files that just save what you've done to a particular movie. You want the movie files you create by using 'Publish.'

Maybe you can try a format conversion tool. I'm sure those must exist for video files (I have one that lets me save my AVIs as MP4s so I can put them on my iPod).
