On an episode of Happy Days, the gang went to California and Fonzie entered some dumb contest involving water skiing a ramp over shark infested waters. The show went downhill after that and never recovered. When a show "jumps the shark" is when it starts an irreversible decline in quality.

Ok, I understand the term jumping the shark, but that refers to the show. From the way the comment was worded, it looked like that I was jumping the shark.
