I could put a clear warning on the upload file dialog page not to upload images from pirated movies - what do you think? They'd be more likely to see that than an FAQ - I do agree though we need a primer to the imfdb linked to clearly on the front page.

Bunni has given the world a great thing in IMFDB. But with success comes a wave of new members from all over the world who may not understand many of the rules that the rest of us have abided by for months.

There's no time like the present - I just put a page up with rule no 1.
Check the pages discussion page for my thoughts.

Is it considered bootleg to make screencaps from Youtube videos?

2) Why would anyone want to screencap off of a Youtube video. The quality( even at "HD") is still bad compared to a direct cap from a DVD. 3) It gets dicey when you come across stuff that's OLD but unavailable. If you can't buy or rent a video of your favorite old adventure show from the 1950s because the studio went out of business and it was never released anywhere, then I would be more forgiving if it showed up on Youtube and someone capped it. Now new stuff or stuff that is actually available on DVD or LEGAL download for purchase or rent, no bootlegs allowed rule applies. |
