My department recently added new synthetic stocks with integral pistol grips onto our Remington 870's. It's very nice. Qualification scores went up immediately. Also added "assault" slings which makes things easier as well.

Try standing around for a couple hours with a shotgun. It gets heavy after awhile, but you can't set it down or throw it up on your shoulder. That's just what the news media would like to see. A police officer handling his shotgun like he's some sort of idiot. That picture would get into the newspaper.

The sling not only frees up your hands and gives your arms a rest, but it makes you look really tactical-cool. And that's important also.
