Actually, the flash hider wasn't the only difference between the A1 and the XM16E1.

Though I'm pretty sure most "XM16E1s" in movies are just A1s that have been given the three-prong flash hider...

The stock blocks the grip, grip safety, and even some of the hammer/slide action.

Real 1911 stocks are fitted to a gun like this, to avoid that.
