From looking at their sites it appears that it is straight to dvd/streaming so it is not eligible if we are classing it as a "film".

They don't know exactly what they will do with it. Want me to wait and see what happens after the Sundance Film Festival to see just how it is released?

Do straight to DVD releases fall under this category? Professional Titles only, no User created Media

Want me to talk with the director? He's in a Facebook group that I'm a part of.

My understanding was that it is just being self distributed by selling DVD/digital download. Only things that have a wide distribution through large networks like Amazon or Netflix are eligible. In other words, if it ends up on one of the big streaming services it would meet the distribution criteria for eligibility.

More broadly though, documentaries are not eligible automatically. This is sort or a grey area as it is a docudrama, but it would still have to be allowed as an exception. It is kind of hard to judge it just based on a trailer.

The director still doesn't have it released yet. I think he wants to release it for the film festivals first. It's been in post-production since June. I think they're almost finished with it.
