If anything, this turns a lot of people into pro-self defense.
On a piece of fiction note, the few times I've heard a neutral gun perspective in a story is the line from the new Dark Tower movie. "I don't kill with my gun. I kill with my heart". I'm glad your friend is alright for the most part. I hope there isn't any lasting brain damage.
