I'm pretty sure I got stupid lucky in that there were no jobs to be had around here before I started looking for one, but now it seems everyone is hiring

So it seems Congress has called bullshit on the military putting brand identity before effectiveness when designing camo and ordered a return to joint-service patterns within five years.

Who do y'all think is going to start bitching first?

Just pull the plug on this ridiculous "trademark" bullshit that the Marines have on MARPAT (which actually works), standardize it for all branches, and be done with it. I know they tried to make a big stink about SOCOM's AOR patterns, but got shut down quick.

Funny how the Corps has no issue with the Georgians wearing it, yet they get up in arms at the mere suggestion of their countrymen in the same military wearing it.

Decided to give driving up to University of Houston a try because riding the bus takes too damn long, and decided to stop at a gas station near campus. When I was waiting in line to check out, I spotted a Harris County Sheriff's Deputy packing a first gen S&W Sigma. It looked like a toy at first glance. It seems that the Galveston and Harris county deputies get a whole hell of a lot more freedom in what they can carry than the police departments in the area; I keep seeing 1911's, S&W 5946's, and S&W 4046's. I even saw a tiny little woman deputy packing a nickel plated Colt Python a while back.

I was in love with her for, like, two years back when SAC was flavor of the month for me (I still like it, just don't watch it as much).

On an unrelated note, every time I do a web search related to HALO (you know, the military freefall technique), 99% of the results are for that fucking video game and I'm getting sick of it.

Yeah, the inter-service rivalry over camouflage patterns has really made me lose respect for DoD as a whole. We're living in an era where everyone understands (and accepts) the necessity of joint commands and joint operations, but heaven forbid everyone wears the same uniforms! (when in fact, they did so for more than 20 years with the BDU/DCU) I seriously hope Congress passes a law specifying that from this point on, all branches of the service cannot have their own trademarked camo patterns.

As for what new pattern to field: Dunno about MARPAT; I'm not a big fan of the pixelated camo trend in general. However, the method that the Corps used to field that pattern is a good one - separate woodland and desert patterns, plus body armor whose color scheme is a blend of the two. I'm guessing what's going to happen is that DoD requests a desert version of MultiCam, and then they field body armor in the same color scheme that the Corps are using now.
