I like the premise of the movie, though. It's original.
Is that why it looks exactly like a reskinned Men In Black?

Looking at the trailer, I'd hazard a guess that this isn't the actual scene for the film. They probably didn't have the shots of the shotgun firing finished (or it may not even be that guy who shoots him), so they took footage of a bad guy raising his gun and quickly slapped in digital effects and stock sound effects so they had something to release to the public.

Having seen the movie, I can confirm that I was right. The thug who shoots in the trailer never gets a shot off and is blasted literally a few frames after that shot cuts off. Nick is actually killed by a point blank rifle burst to the chest later in the gunfight.

It looked like a shotgun but sounded like a full auto rifle in the trailer

Yeah, that was just a trailer goof. It looks like exactly as I said: they didn't have everything completed, so they quickly slapped a sound effect and some muzzle flash onto a shot of the thug raising his shotgun when they needed the trailer's scene of him getting shot.

In the actual movie, the thug never fires his gun. He gets shot as he raises his gun, the gunfight (which is a little bit ridiculous in how it's structured and filmed) goes on and up to the rafters, and Nick gets a point blank assault rifle burst to the chest that drops him down to the ground in hilariously unrealistic way.
