They are identical Nyles, Save for the stock plate. We owe the Peabody rifle to the Brits BTW. They refused to sell enfields to us Turks. So we asked Mr Peabody of Rhode Island to produce Martini-Henry rifles for us. And If I'm not mistaken, without a proper license.
I would have loved to see Mr Peabody's face when he received the order for an entire Ottoman Army. About 600.000 rifles.

These rifles surface here every now and then.

Well, Peabody didn't have the liscence to produce Martini rifles, but Mr. Martini was already infringing Peabody's patent - a Martini is just a Peabody with an internal lock. Switzerland never used to recognize foreign patents, and from what I understand the whole affair is what changed that.
