If the admittedly non-scientific-method of the Box of Truth can be trusted, 7.62 Tokarev has above average penetration, being capable of punching through a Kevlar helmet, something no other pistol rounds tried could do.
However, it doesn't necessarily carry a lot of stopping power, not to mention the testing was by no means exhaustive.
