Well, the weapon would not be fired accurately, but the rounds could still inflict casualties.

Well, if they need long range weapons it just gets built into script, like "hey we have a g36k for some reason although its usually a p90."

I'd bet that they were really expensive for the armorer to obtain, and he purchased a bunch in anticipation of them being the next big thing. And when that didn't pan out, along came Stargate and he milked it for all it was worth.

No, tey wanted something that looked futuristic and cool, the p90 wasnt as mainstream as it is now when they started showing it.
