I think French SP is a lot like SPs in the U.S Army. They get to choose their own weapon, stock, and even new types of weapon for whole goddamn unit, which was Mk.16/17 for USSOCOM(although Mk.16 was screwed up). Since G36 is well-proven weapon that doesn' have any major problems in terms of accuracy and reliability, there are no reason why they shouldn't choose one like it.

There are photos of French special operations units in the Ivory Coast armed with M4 carbines and SIG SG-551s, so it wouldn't be unprecedented for French units to use foreign weapons. Though not strictly speaking military, French gendarmes sent to mentor Afghan police units have also been equipped with G36s.
