Even if you don't have the serial memorized you should be able to know which is your personal weapon. Military weapons are rarely if ever issued factory new, and when used in the field they won't stay that way. Every weapon will have its distinct dents and knicks, I could always pick my C7 and Browning out of the rack without having to check the serial.
