I just fixed a Norinco model in the shop, the receiver had really bad rust pitting. Had to make sure it was safe to fire. And had to clean the gas systems. Not a fan of the grips on them though, something about them feels awkward.

It is a 1953 Soviet SKS, it is all original except for the handguard over the gas tube which was replaced with a tapco handguard which has a rail on it.

Sounds like a good investment. Much like the M1 Carbine, the top piece of the handguard has a habit of getting loose and sliding around. Getting a new Tapco rail top cover sounds pretty sweet. Personally I'd find a nice synthetic stock for it to match the gun and improve the ergonomics. Just not the Dragunov stock. Positions the gun incorrectly, totally throws off the sights. Might not be a problem with a red-dot though.

I loved that book, let my Global teacher borrow it to read. She was somewhat aghast to some of it's content, but actually enjoyed it. She was just young enough to not be a total prude.
