Sourcing pages

I think a good addition to the Rules and Standards would be that when creating a new page without putting screen captures right away, the author should link to the source (video trailer, etc.) he/she is using as a reference for it.

This was brought to my attention on the Splinter Cell wiki page for Splinter Cell: Conviction when one of the editors there pointed out that our own page on the game doesn't have any mention of where the info is taken from.

So I propose that authors of new pages as such should have a link to the source (trailer, official website, etc.) that the list is built off posted somewhere on the page to verify its legitimacy.

That is something we've been missing. Gentlemen Administrators, what say you?

That may make sense for a VG page, or "perhaps" yet to be released movie pages where the images are taken from a HD trailer, but to require it is not necessary since a vast majority of the pages are based on older titles which have no other official info page on the net. Case in point, EVERY movie that is older than 10 years (give or take) would not have an active web page. Movies older than that have nothing listed other than their IMDB listing or Amazon or fan site listing (hardly anything that verifies ANY weapons info).

Again, it may make sense for new VGs, but what about older ones? To require something, you also open up the Pandora's Box of having it be required for ALL the other titles in the category, which is impossible.

It should be (as it already is), up to the page's creator/editors. I would do it only if the info is not easily found. After all, we don't allow the IMDB listing page link on the TV show or Movie since it clutters the page and it adds no verification whatsoever to the purpose of the page (which is IDing weapons). I use IMDB all the time (to get correct spelling of actor names as well as character names), as well as Google searching, but these skills should be the most basic, rudimentary actions by ANY IMFDB member and should be done "off the page" (i.e. invisible to the viewer who only wants to see a complete and professional looking page).

For UNRELEASED Videogames, it IS probably a good idea to prove the existence of the game with a link to an official site or trailer, but that should be the prerogative of the member who makes the page/edits the page.

So it's probably up to you. Mods can't verify everything. I don't even touch the VG game pages. However, I do DELETION SWEEPS for LAME pages. So in a few months time, if a lot of VG game pages are awful, lame or ridiculous, away they go. But I never verify the stuff, I don't have the time nor authority since I don't play the games.

But then this is just my opinion, and I may not be answering correctly. Others please chime in if you have an opinion. Thanks.

Why don't ya'll just display sources on things that aren't out yet, then remove the sources when someone sees/buys a copy of it and can confirm the firearms used?
