I guess I didn't really think about it, but due to my limited skill in the realm of page design and format I tend to repeatedly make changes and see if they work.
I do however make sure to keep them "minor" except for the big final image-addition-edit.

I'm experimenting with different formats/ads to keep them as unobtrusive as possible. Ideally, the ads would be sold on a monthly basis to firearm related vendors, you the users, etc. We get a ton of pageviews and if I can just cover costs I'd be happy.

You get money every time someone clicks an ad right? Maybe we should all just click a lot of ads without buying anything to help you out.
