So did I get ripped on a P08?
Now I said P08, not POS! LOL
Hey, I own guns and work on films with them, doesn't mean I'm an expert on actual dollar values of all older stuff. I have tons of friends who are GURUS on older guns and their values, but none of them are around, and the guys who ARE around give me wildly variable values. STORY: A friend owes me $500. He's broke. He says "take my P08" he's owned since 1982. It's a pre WW2 commercial version, matching numbers, original holster, holster wear, some pitting, good bore, 80% blue, three war time magazines. I've run into enough "friends" who quote "$250" that I'm going to do a sanity check with other guys who know guns...... And no, I can't find my bluebook value of guns edition, so I figured I'd solicit opinions here and see what I get |

It's a gun, they pay for themselves.

Thanks. That's so relevant to the query about the value of the gun

I have the 29th Blue Book edition. There are about 100 different Luger variants listed. But the lowest price listed for several variants is $450 to $500 at 60%. I think you did okay.

Whenever I want to know the value of a gun I just look at what they are selling it for on gunbroker.

I loaned him $500 about a year ago to pay off a parking ticket so he could get his car out of hoc. Remember this is in Los Angeles, land of the "Screw you anyway you can" government. I just had a buddy get a ticket for 'rolling' through a stop sign in a lane in a parking lot of a city owned PARK, not even a real street.
He's taking a pay cut, his second job went away. And now he has to get his car out of hoc again, but I'm not loaning him any more money. At least he's honest about his debts. So he said I owned the contents of a locked box and this was inside. I also picked up some more pieces from him, things I don't really need but they were a good bargain (C&R long guns mostly) so that he could raise enough cash to get out of the most recent mess. More than I can say about a lot of of folks. I'm sure more than a few of you have loaned people money who don't pay it back. I loaned another friend a pretty large sum for his start up business, but this was before I realized he was a MORON when it came to money. This guy could fuck up any business venture, sure he could talk a good game, but he did the most idiotic things which would always ruin the venture. Again, I think only the older IMFDB members would have 'war stories' like this to tell. You younger guys, beware! You happy now? Bet that wasn't as good as you hoped. |

BTW, the 'friends' who quoted me $250, were suddenly willing to take it off my hands for $300. Hmmmmmmmmmm. |
