Default New category:Gangsters?

On the discussion page for Bonnie and Clyde Anonymous was wondering if we should have a category for Gangsters since we have a Crime and Detective Category. Ideas? Do we need such a category? Is is it just duplication? Figured I wouldput it here for discussion.

Personally I think between Crime, Mystery and Detective we got everything covered. But there are films that could be considered part of the Gangster genre. I know that some think we're getting top-heavy with categories. Chime in.

I guess it's alright, though nobody better make another, separate category for "gangsta/hood" movies.

I have been adamantly AGAINST a wave of new categories for months. I suppose none of you recall the fights I've had with new members on this. Every NOOB can create new and more idiotic categories. I've had to argue with people who wanted 'slasher' 'sniper' 'dark comedy (versus comedy)' 'steampunk' 'time travel' 'occult', 'twist ending', 'near future', etc.

The reason IMDB has many categories is because they (a) have tens of thousands of titles, literally an order of magnitude larger than IMFDB (and rightfully so). Too many categories makes it harder to navigate IMFDB and it sucks because so many titles will NOT be listed in a 'new' category that they should be in. It will be swiss cheese and MORE WORK!

I took the liberty of going over the categories and I have compiled a list of ones I think need to go.

http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Category:Alien (Unneccessary, just link to other films in the series in the "See Also" section of the article)

http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Categ...roduced/filmed (Too small to warrant it's own category)

http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Category:Covert-ops (Dumb made up VG category)

http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Categ...roduced/Filmed (Too small to warrant it's own category)

http://www.imfdb.org/index.php/Categ...Person_Shooter (Redundant, almost all VGs on IMFDB are FPSes)

I don't see anything wrong with having a "gangsters/criminals/organized crime" category. What is silly is having a separate category for individual series. "Predator" does not need to be a category.

Good. We need a dialogue on the 'wave' of unnecessary sub categories....

I've put my two cents in. AdAstra2009 did a great job of listing a whole bunch of categories and his reasoning for their appropriateness (or lack there of).

Anyone else?
