Key word: "Only other one".

As for the 1911, I just held an original 1911 made in 1913 (owned by a friend's dad) not too long ago. The 1911 has a smaller, more comfortable grip, and it's not quite as tall. Also, the other thing I don't like about S&W autos (all of them) is the type of safety. Any safety/decocker that I can't easily reach with my thumb, I don't like.

I felt the same way, but I only held it for a few seconds. I need to get some more time on it before I make a real judgment.

The one thing I will say is that the SCAR already seems kinda over-rated to me. But then again, since it seems like anytime something comes out that's hyped as the AR system's successor, that is to be expected (believe it or not, there was a time that people used to hype the OICW, too, even though everyone laughs at it now).

As I said, the Army back then wasted a lot of money to develop the XM8 and then decided to drop it, but the difference is the SCARs are already fielded, but it looks like the same thing is happening to it like what happened to the 416s. They got taken away even when they had good results during field tests.

I held it for about 30 seconds at a gun show, and I couldn't really shoulder it that well because it was tethered to the table

@ S&W you were saying the M&P was awesome a while ago though, and that you would buy one over a 5906.

I've seen pictures and heard a lot of people say the 4506 is bigger than a full size 1911, and the 1911 is a pretty big gun, so I'd assume it's too big for me. I still want one though. If I can ever spare some cash I will gladly buy yours, Matt.

Only because it's retardedly hard to get a 5906

Same. Though it wasn't tethered too tightly that I couldn't shoulder it (I think they do expect that, anyway).

Cool. Well, it ain't going nowhere any time soon, so no rush.

And yeah, the 4506 feels a lot bigger than a barebones, single-stack 1911. I haven't looked up the dimensions, but I know it feels a lot larger. Not dissing the 4506 or anything; it's a great gun. It's just not so great for me.

I guess that's so in Texas. I tripped over them in Florida and I've seen a few up here in Oregon so it's not a "rare" gun to me. I'd wait to find a 5906 than buy a piece of plastic made this year though, but that's just my taste.

I think the next gen rifle should be something that is already familiar and built on a tried and proven platform that is just improved. Like just replace all the M4-M16s out there with piston drive AR-15s. I don't mind new technology, but most people would prefer something simple and utilitarian. Change for the sake of change is a bit stupid. The quest for improving our ability to put holes in bad people is a great and noble one, but those who put form over function or buy into untested tech for the sake of being first are dumbass gamers. The M16/M4 platform isn't perfect and shot just be improved on instead of entirely replaced.

Well, for better or worse, the AR is probably going to be around for a long time.
