Biggest part of "M16A2s" in movies are A1s with A2 handguards. I don't recall any movies that I've seen recently with actual M16A2s.

Any reason for the interest in that particular variant of the M16 family?

Off the top of my head, I've seen M16A2s being fired quite a bit in the recent movies "Cloverfield" and "The Incredible Hulk", and also in the TV show "Jericho" (particularly the last two episodes of Season 1 and the first episode of Season 2).

I remember in Blackhawk down, they had an M16A2 fire in burst once

Then check out the ones I mentioned. Although "The Incredible Hulk" actually has a mix of A2s and A4s (with the carry handles left on).

Again, why the interest in the M16A2 in particular? That variant is getting a lot more rare in movies/TV shows these days, because directors now prefer to use the more modern M16 variants, such as the M16A4 and the M4A1.
