Yeah, I'm of the idea that the HK45 Compact is more or less an "official" replacement for the Mark 23 as NSW's "Hush Puppy".
From a technical standpoint, the Mark 23 is a good pistol. But from a practical standpoint, it's (like you said) too freaking big.

Weight savings most likely. That one extra magazine you pack along for your primary could be the one that makes the most difference, after all.
