I have an idea for a new rifle for Van Zyl. It's a Mk 14 Mod 1 fitted with a M68 Aimpoint scope, 3x magnifier, AN/PEG-15 IR designator, and a Surefire FA762K Suppressor. Here are the components of it:

Dude how about this:

The receiver of his FAL is damaged during a battle with the militia, rendering it unable to fire (the same thing happens to Greg's R5). He takes the Mk 14 out of the armory and uses it during the assault on the Militia camp. Greg replaces his R5 with an AKM fitted with a AK-74 style muzzle break. Is it a deal?

Anyway, I haven't written anything down in the book for a while? Any ideas?
