Default Selector settings on an AR

In the Deadliest Warrior article, it mentions that the AR can't have a four-position selector.

But according to my copy of the AR-15/M16 Source Book, CAR-15 variants used in Vietnam and even XM4 prototypes had four-position selectors.

Which is it?

I'm asking because I'm doing some corrections to weapon articles on the Resident Evil Wiki site, where the M4 carbine has an entry..

A few years back I did see some M-16 style four position fire control groups for sale. So yes they have made four position fire control groups for the M-16 type rifle.

Yeah but they aren't common and I don't believe they are used today (that Green Beret guy must have slipped up). Most military M16/M4 rifles have Full/Semi/Safe or Burst/Semi/Safe. Of course civilian rifles (which is what "AR" or AR-15 should be used to define in proper context) are just Semi/Safe.

And wouldn't these 4 position selectors be a bit different than one with 3?

The M231 Port Firing Weapon has Safe and Full Auto only but has the fastest ROF out of all AR derivatives.

I didn't think he slipped up.
I thought he was just listing all the fire modes for the m4 series as there are m4's that have burst fire as oppose to full-auto.

That could very well be the case, but the way he said it sounded like he is claiming the M4 has 4 positions not the option of burst or auto.
