That's what admins and Banning is for. To take out the trash and clean out the forum's gutters.

Why take out the trash when you can keep it from getting inside in the first place?

Here's an idea, close editing to anonymous users and new members. If a new member has something valid to add, they can PM an admin or a mod. Then they can make their change and be upgraded to "established member" or whatever you want to call it.

The problem with that, the mods will have even more work to do. Usually if an anonymous user or new member is causing problems, making bad edits. They are warned, if it persists, banned.

So mod more people to handle the extra load. Besides, you'd only have to do it once for each new member. They prove themselves to the establishment with a single offer of new content, and then are welcomed into the fold and can edit without any red tape just like the rest of us.

And by new content I don't mean a simple edit to spelling or grammar. I mean better photos, a new page, correctly ID'ing incorrectly ID'ed guns, updating an incomplete page, etc.

I'm not a mod, but I wouldn't want to bothered with that. Even if the number of mods is doubled or tripled. But that's me.
