Default Gun trends you dont understand....

Some things pop up that people think is cool, fad for the gun world.

What I dont understand is:

Hatred of squared trigger guards. Some people will debate that squared guards are inferior to a rounded one for ever without stating a reason, I heard once "it may catch on clothes" but that seems like crap.

The taurus judge......just, the fact it exists.....

Making guns lighter at all costs. I can understand a concealed carry gun but not a duty gun. Especially in big calibers. A 22-25 ounce polymer pistol may be great for 9mm but not in say 357 magnum or .45

M4 stocks on everything. Why? The design was intended to accomodate the AR15 buffer tube. There is no reason to put one on a shotgun.

and i hate the standard m4 stock, there are so many better options, like the vltor, that offer good confortable cheek weld.

And ultra shorty ar-15s. a 7.5 or 10.5 inch barrel is horrible for range, and you see people jumping through hoops with class 3 to chop a 16 inch barrel down to 14.5, like an inch and a half will make a difference

That's a good one. I've never fired a shotgun with an M4 stock, but does it really offer any advantage over the traditional side- or top-folding stocks? Or do people use them just for the sake of looking "tacticool"?

And of course, it goes without saying that anyone who sticks an M4 stock on their Ruger 10/22 is a poser.

I know for a fact that squared trigger guards on Smith autos are a bit smaller than rounded ones, which may (usually does) cause discomfort

On reasonably sized autos (sig, xd, etc) i like to rest my trigger finger on the front of the trigger guard. A lot more confortable and secure. Some autos, like the beretta, are too big for this. Also, on railed guns, a light looks more flush to a squared guard.

What about trends that never caught on or haven't caught on fast enough. Why don't all rifles use translucent magazines?

Laser sights and flashlights on everything. Sure they serve a purpose, but they're getting carried away.

Cammo patterns on shotguns, rifles, handguns, slingshots, pocketknives. How in the world did my poor old grandfather manage to bring home any game when he was growing up in the 1930's without any tacti-cool cammo shotguns? All he had was a blued-steel Remington Model 10. Poor old grandpa. It's a good thing he didn't starve before he made my dad or I wouldn't be here now.

How about people buying desert camo shotguns when they live in snowy/forest areas? I always see a desert camo benelli m4 at every gunshop. As to translucent magazines, its probably a cost issue or low demand.

Mostly a path dependency issue. There are gazillions of metal AK and AR mags floating around, and have been since before translucent mags even existed.
