Question Okay, what is up with these weird "Hi messages"?

I know they're spam, but what does it achieve?

We get all these generic "Hi Guys, Great work! looking forward to learning a lot" generic greetings in the weirdest of places. we look into the IP addresses that post them or the USER IDs and they end up with SPAM sites as their home pages.

But please explain to me what this type of infiltration is meant to accomplish? I know that hackers/spammers were constantly trying to make a fake Index.php pages for a while. We stopped that by creating our own and locking it. (Bunni's actual main page is NOT a standard Index.php page and thus is harder to hack into).

But what do all these "Hi people" postings (which are so generic that they could be on a forum/website for GARDENING or Model Train Hobbyists as well) do? Do these posts enable some hacker a gateway to the inner workings of IMFDB? If they're trying to sell something, I don't know what it is.....

Anyone with a more intimate knowledge of these types of people, please shed some light on the subject for me

I noticed this, too, and I have no idea what's going on.

Just going back through the old topics and noticed this; this is called a "spam probe" and it's basically test-firing a bot to see if you can successfully add a message to a page. The messages are supposed to be generic and seem innocuous, but in practice they always seem out-of-place and rarely make any sense.

good to know. 18 months after the question was asked, but better late than never.
