Years in titles
I've been seeing a lot of new titles lately that include the release year - I have to wonder and ask if this is absolutely necessary? I really don't think many of the recently added titles are repeated on the site.

The release year must be used only in case there are several movies with same title. In other cases it isn't necessary. So The Terror (1963) and The Caller (1987) are better to be renamed without year.

I'm in two minds about years in the title for movies like those two. On the one hand, the titles are not duplicates of ones already on the database so there is no need for anything in brackets to disambiguate it.
However on the other hand, for both of those films there are multiple properties that have the exact same title so you can argue that it is useful to have the year in the title. Firstly, if somebody sees it in a list they will know which film/series the article is about without having to click on it. Secondly, if somebody ever made a page for one of the other properties that shares the title then if the year wasn't there we would have to move the page and change the entry of every page that linked to that title otherwise they would just lead to the disambiguation page. |

I've always assumed you put years in titles in case of a remake or a movie of the same name but completely different movie

I always preferred years for TV series or video games based on movies as well. <title> (2015) just seems less clunky and more simple than <title> (TV series) or <title> (Video Game).

As do I. But some good points are made though. For TV shows or games I could see it being a bit less awkward looking, as fcm mentioned. The reference issue commando makes is also a good one, which I can see especially in titles that might be quite commonly re-used. That said, I don't think forcing folks to make one extra click is asking too much - I still find it a bit unnecessary until they actually ARE re-used in our own database. But that's me. Streamlining and avoiding additional work for additional same-titles media pages is an arguably stronger point though.
