Default What's with all the Noobs NOT reading the rules?

I can't count how many times IMFDB members have pointed out rule violations to noobs who then answer "Oh, sorry I didn't know that was against the rules" when its' clearly laid out, plain as day in the RULES section.

Does anyone have any great ideas to make new members actually read the rules before they make endless amounts of mistakes that the rest of us have to correct on the site? All ideas are welcome, even ones that include electroshock and cattleprods....

If this sounds like a rant, sorry. I just quickly calculated that roughly 30% of veteran IMFDB members & Mods time is expended correcting errors or bad pages or bad formatting by new members, many times who are drive by anonymous users who make changes and then disappear forever.

Make them read the rules before they register, sort of like how you have to read the EULA when you register for something.

Does anyone really even read those? I always just scan down until the "Yes, I agree" option becomes available. Too lazy.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any solution besides doing our job. We just have to accept that there are always going to be people who don't pay attention to the rules. If everyone paid exacting attention to the rules at all times, Admins wouldn't be necessary.

Well I just love the noobs who come in with all that attitude Alienqueen and I have banned a few who have come in, insulted and threatened other members (one even threatened to take down the entire site "with a few keystrokes") or told us to fuck off when we pointed out the rules. It's FUN to ban those guys.

Of course I'd like a KUDOS at our experienced IMFDB members who make us proud and uphold the integrity of the site. When I see serious members taking the time to politely instruct bozos as to the errors of their ways, it makes it easier to be a mod.

Sometimes it's harder than you think.

^Yeah, it is. I know I've seen a few posts on talk pages where I just double facepalmed and thought "you couldn't be that stupid?" (the M16A2/A4 debate on the BFBC2 page, for example) Now, obviously I didn't respond as such to them, but sometimes it's really, really tempting to do so.
