Default Some of my beaters.

The 'sporterized Mk III* is a BSA with a 1916 date of birth. I picked it up a few years ago for $75.00. I know it's been "bubbaized", but something about it caught my eye. And the price was right. Also it's fairly accurate. I own a couple pieces that are beaters for sure, but I've always kept a couple beaters in my safe. They can be fun and you don't worry about scratching or dinging them.

The Mk VI is one of the ones manufactured by Enfield in the mid - 1920's.

And finally a S&W M&P 3rd Change with a six inch barrel. Date of birth: 1912/1913. It was refinished (nicely done I might add) sometime in the past and somebody did a home gunsmith job on the hammer turning it into a target hammer. But all the serial numbers match to include the serial number written in pencil on the inside of the grips. The factory wrote the serial numbers in pencil on the inside of the grips panels into the 1930's.

Like the Mk III* "sporter" the M&P is very accurate at 20 yards with 38 Special 158 grain LRN. And there are things about it that are just neat such as the dishing out of the top strap just above the forcing cone - I would imagine for flame cutting. Evidently it was also a big deal with shooters 97 years ago! I paid $200.00 flat for that "old" M&P.

Just thought I would show off some of my less pretty pieces. I like the beaters also.

Very nice. Is the Mk.VI still in .455 or shaved to .45?

I like the S&W too. One of these days I really ought to get myself a .38 Special. I've got a similar 1940 Canadian contract 6" M&P in .38 S&W and I really like the gun.

Nice guns. They all look better than 90% of my guns, so I can assume you take extremely good care of your guns

Yes I'm very anal about my guns. Even my duty GLOCKS get brought into the house and the end of my shift. I don't store my G19 in it's holster and I try to clean them at least once a month.

And I do all the usual. Wipe them down before they go back into the safe even if all I did was take one out for a couple minutes to show off. I have both a moisture absorbing Goldenrod in my safe as well as a box of silicate gel.

I got it from my dad. He grew up in the Southern U.S. where guns were (and still are) very routine, but the southern climate is rough on them. Though I live in dry southwestern Idaho dad imparted to me the importance of being anal about their cleanliness. Then the U.S. Army encouraged and facilitated the neurosis.

Nyles the Enfield Mk VI is shaved. I now own an actual Webley Mk VI (mfd. 1919) in .455 as well. The Enfield is in better shape. It has New Zealand military marks on it and no importer stamp. So it's pre 1968. The .455 Webley was imported by CIA (Century International Arms) and has Irish markings. It isn't as pretty, but mechanically it's in good shape. I'll try to post a photo of it as well.

I've loaded up some 45acp to .455 specs and fired it in the Enfield. And I spent the money on a box of Hornady .455. I've fired twelve rounds through both of them and they are now safe Queens. I did get Snap Caps for both however so I can do the occassional dry firing and not break the firing pin.

Well, color me impressed! I'd give my left nut for an Irish-marked Webley, I'd love to see pictures!

LOL! Your beaters are beautiful. They are still too nice to be called beaters.

A real battlefield pickup. At least it's a Pre-86 Transferable

To paraphrase Crocodile Dundee "That's not a Beater .... Now THIS is a beater!"

Are they hard to get hold of? I've never heard one way or the other.
