Well you're comparing an LMG to an assault rifle. They are built to be carried by different people for different reasons. Anyway, I understand the point you're making, I'm just not a fan of heavy infantry rifles.

A 9 pound m16 does not seem like a big advantage over a 10-11 pound .308 rifle. And if your ammo drops people in one shot and punches through barriers that stop 556, then you dont need as much ammo.

Who says I'd pick an M16 though? If anything I'd pick an M4A1, which is 6-7lbs. But even with that, maybe I'd want something like a FN F2000 (which is very light) or maybe some other rifle.

The FN F2000? Id never carry it (or just about any bullpup} Id never use an m4 either (if i was shooting poodle bullets id want a longer barrel to get some velocity)

The f2000 is about 9 pounds loaded. The civilian version has completely plastic guts, im guessing the military has much better because the fn fs2000 is pretty damn overpriced for being so cheaply made. They shoot about 3 moa, which is combat accurate but much below Ar, m14, sig 550, etc, rifles, and the trigger, typical of bullpups, sucks.

Much like this has already been argued, an M4's 14.5" barrel is plenty long enough to send a round out with accuracy and velocity for typical combat ranges. While a 20" barrel of say an FN FAL would shoot farther, it isn't so different that you could really tell. Also, a 5.56x45mm round has a velocity of ~3100fps, which is pushing Mach 1, so I don't know why you think it doesn't have good velocity, and that's just the standard grain bullet. 7.62 NATO is ~2,400-2,700 depending on loads.

Im talking about decreased velocity in a shorter barrel, plenty reports of the FMJ crap not fragmenting properly due to reduced velocity. And as to bullpup rifles, hate em all. Poor relaods and bad triggers.

I agree with you on bullpups for the reasons you mentioned.

Some of the Bullpups I've seen and fired are good, but when I held the F2000, or rather a civie verison, it felt a bit uncomfortable. I have shorter arms than the ones this rifle was designed for. When I held a P90, it felt too short for my arms to hold onto. I felt like I was going to drop it. I've held an L85A1 and it felt just heavy to me. Now an AUG feels pretty nice in your arms even if it appears weird

The Steyr AUG A1 is a cool looking gun and one of the few bullpups I really like. But the A3 they have in Rainbow Six: Vegas and Vegas 2 is just ugly.

I remember watching Die Hard for the first time and thinking "What the hell is that thing?'

The aug is supposed to be one of the best bullpups. In close quarters, a 42 round mag would be cool. For any type of range, id get a regular rifle.
The civvie legal fn fs2000 is plastic, even inside. Heres the bolt assembly.
