Default NSW HK45 Compact?

According to Wikipedia, which gave this as a source, the Navy SEALs have at some point adopted the HK45C. I was trying to find out more, but in true SEAL fashion, info about this is quite scarce (a Google search provided very little, the most entertaining, if uninformative, being an HKpro.com thread that had its members raving about the "awesome Mark 24 Mod 0" while no one bothered to tell them that "Mark 24 Mod 0" is the Navy designation for the SIG P226... ).

Now, I understand just as well as any of you that SEALs, being Tier 2 SOF, can get and carry most of what they want, but I was wondering if any of you knew anything beyond what the above CrimsonTrace site says.

They may have "adopted" the mark 23, but never "used" it. Remember there is a difference, bet ya most are packing 226s still. Why carry a compact gun for war?

Well a sidearm is more or less a backup gun in case your primary is down. If it is your primary weapon on the field, carrying a compact might not work, but if your primary weapon isn't a sidearm, than it really doesn't matter if it is small.

The mk23 with supressor and lam was the size and weight of a submachinegun, but a concealed carry pistol isnt that great either. theres a happy medium, i think a regular hk45. I wonder when the military will open up more pistol trials, and if they will be rigged. Hell if they werent playing politics and rigging tests the t48 rifle wouldve been in us hands in vietnam and smith and wesson 459s would be in holsters now.

It would be nice if you were allowed to carry what you want as a sidearm as long as you provide it for yourself and it can use issued ammo.

I prefer functionality and ergonomics over style

Sarcasm is harder online.....

Id go with a springfield pro with a squared and serrated trigger guard.

I've thought the same thing quite often myself. Still have an official sidearm, but give others the option to use their own guns if so desired.

That said, I can see why the military and police departments do what they do. Maintenance, for example - I can only imagine the fits the armorers would have if, in addition to servicing Berettas and M4s, they had to worry about someone's SIG 556 or another's Ruger P89.

I wish DSA would make a 556 like the imbel 97. Would be sick.
