Anyone notice the increase in movie pages with just ONE GUN?
What is up with that? Why do IMFDB members feel the need to add on MOVIE pages that have only ONE firearm in it and the firearm is pretty incidental to the plot of the film?
I know we now have a rule that the page must have more than one REAL firearm to be included with the following exception: 1) the firearm is identifiable, well seen and important to the story. A film where 'some character' wields an 'unknown revolver' means nothing. 2) it has enough screen time for any viewer to wonder what make or model it is. . 3) it must drive the plot forward and not be an 'incidental' prop (like something hanging on the wall in the background). (a) If it is in the background, it must be 'interesting enough' to merit someone asking the question 'what is that?' Thus if it has enough screen time and it is identifiable, it qualifies. If it is a random 'set dressing' or a 'shape' held by a extra, then it does not qualify. 4) the single firearm rule only applies if the firearm is real. If it is an obvious toy or airsoft gun, then it does not qualify. Having a lone character wave around an 'orange plug' airsoft toy does not merit a page. If the film is filled with various replica or high quality airsoft weapons than can fool the casual viewer, then it qualifies, if only to shine light upon the fact that the guns are fakes. But why add on a ton of new pages with movies that have only ONE gun appearance in the film? There are TONS of movie pages that need work and members are opting to create these 'single gun' pages. Thoughts? |

I've noticed that as well. They're taking up memory. I say evaluate case by case and the ones where the one firearm isn't essential go ahead and delete.

People want to pad their stats, and there are only so many good movies to go around. I agree that we should address the lackluster pages, but in terms of boasting, "I fixed up the ___ page" doesn't sound as good as "I made the ___ page."

This comes up all the time. There are a lot of film with just one weapon in it but it's used by several actors. When this site was opened I knew it was going to be like opening Pandora's box. How much memory is used for a film with just one weapon especially if it's sharing the photo with other films. I you want to save memory on the server dump the video games as they are not part of television or film. We need to quite Bitching about single weapons, Black and White Movie, and Foreign films and just keep posting.

Instead of whining about that we should add more depth to the page like a brief summery about the film, The cast, Directors and maybe Studio. The more info the better as IMFDB is being looked at by more in the film industry. |

Maybe I haven't paying enough attention to the site lately, but I didn't notice this epidemic of single-gun pages. Whenever this comes up, please post links to examples of pages that seem worthy of deletion.

Oh man can we just drop the video game debate? They're here, they're not going to go away. If Bunni didn't want them, he'd make it known. Griping about it is not going to change anything.
