Flat in personality or in ... other regards?

Personality. Which isn't actually bad, as they're not tying to paint her as some superbadass right of the bat. She just isn't Michelle Rodriguiz

So, is anyone surprised the pilot featured a plot centered around an unarmed black man being shot by a white police officer?

It's almost...almost trying to bait people to make it an issue when...no one cares anymore
Episode 2, Hondo takes a shot with a 10in 416 from a moving helicopter and gets a head shot. Then there's a scene where the guy was storming the house with a shotgun and instead of shooting the guy when he enters, they jump him, trying to grab the weapon. Bullshit. There's a lot of grappling suspects that are clearly being a threat vs shooting them, even during the training scene in the beginning of episode 2

When I was watching the previous scene when Hondo asked for a favor, I joked about asking for a helicopter and then...they brought a helicopter unironically....and I kept shouting that I was fucking joking

It'd be one thing if it was a Bell 206 or Eurocopter AS350 actually used by the LAPD, but a Black Hawk?

I think I mentioned this before, but I was really surprised to see Black Hawks at all. I didn't think any were available unless you got help from the Pentagon. But I looked it up, and the government started selling surplus Black Hawks a few years ago.

It's no surprise. There's been government funding for police departments for years. People are against the so called militarization of the police force.
