I want my book to have a futuristic feel to it. Not like a Jetsons style feel to it, but I want to have advance technology like iris identification and video phones. Any suggestions to make it a believable future?

Yes, basically give the face-to-face feel when its impractical to actually meet (like long distance.)

And another idea is that the mercs are on a deniable op so they cant bring around uber tactical super guns. That may explain using today's technology

That makes no sense. Would people on a deniable op today use weapons from 50 years ago?

I wouldnt call a g36 or barrett 82 OLD, im just trying to explain why there not decked out like ghost recon.
