Not really a war movie, but The Last Detail with Jack Nicholson is just about the most honest depiction of military life I've ever seen in a movie. Bill Badusky could easily be the Seargent I worked under when I spent a summer driving a G Wagon in Wainwright.

The Last Detail is pretty enjoyable. One of Randy Quaid's earliest film roles. The movie gives new meaning to "cuss like a sailor".
