California gun regulations have become something of a running joke among more gun-liberal states in America. But I have no idea why Californians would keep voting these regulations in, other than being rather left-wing.

Except this is the same state that voted for Prop 8 just eight years ago. I don't think guns are a completely red/blue issue. Michigan and Vermont voted solidly blue (until last year), and yet both are gun friendly (Vermont extremely so.)

You mistake me calling democrats liberals. Though technically the vast majority are, liberal is more of a mentality that's been twisted into the form that it is today. California is one of the most anti gun states in the country next to New York, IL, and Jersey.
