Guns of Navarone
Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and this is my first post:
I entered The guns of Navarone in imfdb and received data on many of the small arms in the film. However there was no mention of the stars of the movie: the rail mounted cannon and subject of the movie. Can anyone ID these weapons? They look similar to the 50 calibre - 16inch guns found on Iowa class battleships, but if they are German / Krupps they probably have a metric designation. This bit of trivia has eluded me for some time, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, gesshots |

I don't recall them mentioning any specs during the film. Did anyone read the book?

According to Jenson(the British Intelligence guy), his experts thought the guns were 9-inch rifled guns, through Jenson himself though they were 210mm 'crunch' guns (210mm= 8 inches) When Mallory gets to the gun cave, he estimates the guns at 12 inches minimum, though he might have exaggerated the size due to exhaustion and the dark. OTOH, the movie departs so radically from the book that the gun's size is still up for grabs.
English/Metric conversions: 9 inches = 228.6mm 210mm = 8.27 inches 12 inches = 304.8mm Last edited by Mandolin1; 09-27-2010 at 01:28 PM. |

What's the site's policy on artillery? I know vehicle mounted weapons are included* sometimes, but I've only seen one page (I can't remember which movie) with artillery.
*meaning the GAU-22/A in Die Hard 4, I know M2HBs and the like are included. |
