Where Shepherd's guys PMCs? I always thought they were US military, albeit only loyal to him and his cause. It bothered the hell out of me.

Isn't that kinda the definition of a PMC?

To me, fighting in New York is the epitome of stupid. To do so is to surrender any artilery, air support, and armor advantage. Artillery and aircraft are useless with the tall buildings and helecopters are vulnerable to anti-tank-rockets and machine guns, since the buildings get in the way and limit manuvability. APCs will be better than tanks, since the autocannon of an APC has a higher elevation than a tank's main gun, and any advantage the tank has in the armor department is negated (again) by anti-tank teams six stories up shooting at the thin top armor.

Then throw in, say, 12,000 cops (1/3 the NYPD), thousands of soldiers, and the ability for defenders to move undetected though the miles of subway tunnels, ellectric and phone corridors by whatever utilites works stay behind and the result will be worse than Stalingrad, all for a city of no real value. Yes, it has a port. By the time you can use it, all the streets will be rubble-filled and covered by snipers.

One last thing: How did the Russians whip up another invation force? The first one was EMP'd back to the Stone Age, left to deal with a whole bunch of angry Americans.

No. The C in PMC is Contractor, which they're not if they're military.

The clips look like they were fighting in Manhattan. Why not just seal it off and let whoever is there wither on the vine?

Well, a tank with an RWS mounting a Mark 19 would be as useful as an IFV (a Brad's chaingun is still limited to 60 degrees elevation while I believe an M151 Protector can shoot straight up if you feel so inclined) and you shouldn't underestimate the usefulness of a tank in urban warfare; while they need infantry support, they don't have the issues missile-based platforms do with things like power lines. Also, recall they have whatever anti-missile system was on Honey Badger that made it think it was a Bradley.

Also, at least it's not the Nazis in Turning Point: Fall of Liberty dropping paratroops on downtown Manhattan while bombing and shelling it with battleships at the same time.

Honey Badger was a Stryker (More specifically an M1126).

Yeah, I know. That's kind of the point, they just stuck something like Trophy or Arena on it and deployed it like it was an IFV.
