Apparently during Vietnam, NVA built 7.62 Tokarev 1911 barrels and magazines so they could use their 7.62 Tokarev rounds after capturing 1911 pistols from dead GIs. I saw one of the barrels for sale on GunBroker a long time ago.
As for actually buying and using one of these in a 1911, I could pay about the same amount (18 dollars, forget corrosive surplus ammo) for, oh, I don't know, .45 ACP maybe? Not to mention I can also use the money on the kit to buy said ammo. Like they say in the description, it falls into the "play" category, and the playing, when you think about it, doesn't make sense unless you are solely going for cool points. Kinda like skateboarding versus bike riding, the former (skateboarding; 7.62 Tok) maybe be seen as cool, but it's flashier than anything else, while the latter (bike riding; .45 ACP) is just as if not more convenient, less ridiculous, and better and more practical for one in a lot of ways. |

Its not a very expensive barrel and would be fun, stop thinking of the practicality and just enjoy the shooting.

For a few bucks over the cost of the conversion will you a gun that's actually built for the cartridge. TT-33, CZ-52. I think if you want to plink just buy a .22 conversion.

Now I don't know anything about the 7.62x25mm so is it actually a good round? Does it have stopping power?

A while back I was shooting a 1/2" aluminum plate at the range. My .45s were just making dents the size and depth of a dime in it. My Tokarev was blowing holes all the way through, with major spalling on the exit side.

It's only for 9mm or .38 Super M1911s (unless I'm reading it wrong.) 9mm is pretty cheap as is, even the non-corrosive stuff, so I don't think you'd save that much money. And while I know that .38 Super is popular with competitive shooters, how many .38 Super M1911s can there be out here?

Colt still makes them as do a few other 1911 makers. I have a RIA in .38 Super.
