Do you mean pre-1924? Because that's when the M1911 became the M1911A1.

Yes and no, 1924 is when most of the A1 features were introduced, but they were marked as 1911s until 1937. The 1924 series is referred to as the Transitional Model. That said, yes, 1934 was a typo.
