| Recommendations for a good 9mm

I was thinking of buying a 9mm soon (1-2 months depending on how finances look). I have my eye on an Sig SP 2022, but was wondering if you guys had any good suggestions. My budget is up to $500 + fees. This will be my first gun purchase so I wanted thoughts and recommendations.

I personally don't like the SP 2022. It just feels a bit big and I don't like the DAO trigger. Personally a used Glock 19 would do you good.

I've handled a SP 2022, it's okay I guess. I'm old school, P226 or 92FS, depending on your hand size they could be too big though. A S&W 5906 can be had at a great price, if you don't mind used. If you want a polymer frame, the Springfield XD or XDM, I like them over a Glock.

The Springfield XDM is a fine piece.

A used XDM 3.8 compact is a good choice. Get the pierce grip for the small mag and you're good to go. The S&W MP compacts are pretty good but if you save a little bit more the Shield is an excellent choice

Not sure what one is going for these days, but it's hard to go wrong with a CZ-75. Nor any of the S&W autos. I'm not a fan of the XD, but I carry a Glock personally. Also, my first 9mm was a Ruger P-95.

If you can, go shoot a few different pistols just to see what "fits" you best

Is it DAO only? I thought that you could get it either as a DA/SA or DAO. Or did I read that wrong?

Nevermind. I guess the one I handled was DAO. Personally for a "first gun", I wouldn't recommend a gun that is DA/SA because it requires a bit more training for trigger control. I just don't like the consistency of that kind of trigger. Also for the OP, what is the gun for? Carry? Home Defense? Shits and giggles?

Mixture of home defense and casual shooting at the range with friends.
