Yeah, the problem I have with that is that rather than you being a soldier, a soldier ends up being you. Since he can't really do anything or say anything, he ends up utterly useless and everything happens
to him rather than
because of him. For example, in MW2 you might as well be playing as Foley since all Ramirez ever does is what Foley tells him to; if you were, you'd be doing things because your character was a guy who leads by example rather than having a sneaking suspicion that Foley is named as the beneficiary of Ramirez's life insurance and wants to collect.
