And whoever debunked it based on its pump forend needs a better version of differentiation, since shotgun pumps can be switched out. You can base it on the safety location, trigger guard, magazine tube cap, and far better methods.

If that's the only differentiating factor, then it can be.
There are some forearms which are very distinctive and as far as I know, never used on another manufacturer's shotgun. I would probably never see a mossberg style forearm on a Remington because they don't fit (I know, I've tried) You can try to custom fit a forearm, but it's a pain because you need to alter the contours on the inside of the piece.
