If that's the only differentiating factor, then it can be. There are some forearms which are very distinctive and as far as I know, never used on another manufacturer's shotgun. I would probably never see a mossberg style forearm on a Remington because they don't fit (I know, I've tried) You can try to custom fit a forearm, but it's a pain because you need to alter the contours on the inside of the piece.
