I've seen pictures of Marines who have crossed M16s tatted on their back, that's about it. Unless it's something cool like that which commemorates service and the weapon is only part of the picture, I think having a gun tattoo in general is a bad idea.

That being said, I remember at the place I went to, I was looking through a flipbook of some available tats, and the artist had actually inked some guns on people (including a really detailed Uzi). So obviously there are people who get gun tattoos without doing service or anything. I just wouldn't want to be one of them.
