Bullet drop in this game is an utter wildcard. My suggestion is to pick a rifle/scope combination, get accustomed to it, and stick with it.
I don't know if you were using a sniper rifle in this case, but the Mk 14 and M40A5 seem to have the least amount of bullet drop out of all the non-DLC sniper rifles.
