I agree. The Anti Gun Media And most cops were being unfair to the 'cheap handgun market' primarily because gangs and criminals were using them BECAUSE they were cheap. But those guns aren't for gun enthusiasts who go to the range and practice. Those guns are for people who aren't really into guns and just want that one inexpensive piece in their bedroom drawer that's there if someone busts the door down trying to victimize them. It's pretty much a single use, last ditch weapon .... and they were perfect for that purpose. So many people, including gun enthusiasts, didn't understand that business model. They forget that there are tons of folks who aren't afraid of guns, but don't love them like we do. They just want a commodity that will serve it's purpose if needed. That's all.

The bad thing was that perps were using the cheap guns as single use assassination weapons that they could throw away. Now that was an unintended consequence, but being that on the black market, you can get anything, including high end weapons, the cost of the weapon wouldn't be a factor anyway.

A local tv station did a 'gang' related piece where they showed some 17 yr old banger in Oakland california. He showed off his GLOCK 17 he bought for 50$ on the street. I was thinking ... "where the hell can I get a Glock for 50 bucks?!?!?!" It was stolen of course, but you can get a Glock for $50 if you're willing to deal with unsavory types of people. Like drug traffickers, that entire underground market has little to do with the legitimate marketplace and law abiding customers....
