I think the next gen rifle should be something...
I think the next gen rifle should be something that is already familiar and built on a tried and proven platform that is just improved. Like just replace all the M4-M16s out there with piston drive...

As I said, the Army back then wasted a lot of money to develop the XM8 and then decided to drop it, but the difference is the SCARs are already fielded, but it looks like the same thing is happening...
