TV series gangland .... anachronistic reenactments
 

I was watching the series "Gangland" on the History Channel, and I was laughing at some of the 're-enactments' of some of the gang slayings. For instance, one of the episode was about a black gang in the 1970s. For the re-enactment of the shootout, they showed shadowy video footage of 'black hands' locking and loading Beretta Px4 Storm, USP Compacts, SIG-Sauer 2022 pistols and after a second I'm going ... WTF??? in the 1970s?

Do these idiots know anything about the timeline of guns? Why do a Civil War re-enactment and give the Confederate soldiers MP5s.....Yeah, that's the ticket ......:eek:

I once saw a Vietnam documentary with reenactments of US troops equipped with flat-top M16A4s and M4s...

That wasn't as bad as ANIMAL PLANET's special on K-9 Dog units. Apparently they filmed 'actors' as Vietnam era MPs, wearing woodland BDUs and carrying Ruger Mini 14s and long barreled (16" legal length) Thompson M1927 carbines (the semi auto civilian version of the M1928 Thompson) with the gangster era foregrip.

Well, typically they would issue a regiment the same type of rifle. The Springfield and Enfield could both use standard .58 caliber cartridges (an Enfield is actually .577 but that's close enough for a muzzle-loader), and they were the two most common. But they also used the .69 caliber 1842 musket and .54 Lorenz in large numbers, espesically earlier in the war. They even had the old .54 Mississipi, .70 Brunswick and so on. And that's not even considering the repeaters the Union cavalry issued.
