It's a fun game. Mostly a parody of shooters in general. Main character is voiced by Steve Blum, great actor. A lot of tongue and cheek humor

A depravedly fun game. I almost felt guilty by how I enjoyed it. Well worth the $5-10 bucks you can get it for nowadays.

The title says it all.

(And honestly, I thought the North Dakota economy was better off.)

People just aren't taking any risks with the movie. Hell, they could have just REMADE Red Dawn in the 80s and make it an alternate history piece. Why modernize it at all. We aren't at cold war with anyone and China is really not our enemies. Sure they can be pretentious sometimes and think they are better than Japan, but they aren't "scary". Homefront at least WORKED on the backstory of North Korea growing into a threat but that game had other problems that sucked.

funkychinaman 08-07-2012 02:32 AM

It should be noted that the enemy in Homefront was supposed to Red China as well. I can see why a movie studio would want to avoid pissing off the Red Chinese, but why a game studio? Western game consoles are banned in China already.

The problem with a movie studio thinking of distributing to China is pointless. They ban more any movie for stupid reasons anyway.

I think there were a lot of behind the scenes crap about China not being in Homefront. The primary reason which kinda makes sense is China "isn't scary" anymore like the Russians were during the Cold War. In fact, China has never been scary or seen as the enemy of America. Copy cats, piss poor technology and still won't forgive Japan for WWII even though it's been over 70 years and all the people who were alive at the time are dead and buried.

It's still a substantial market for PC games, IIRC, and if you annoy the PRC government they don't just ban that game, they can ban every game by that publisher. EA apparently had to do some rapid-fire backpedalling over how the PLA was depicted in Command & Conquer Generals.

Japan killed about twice as many Chinese civilians in WW2 as Germany killed Jews during the Holocaust, and Japan has (a) never even tried to apologise and (b) publishes textbooks claiming such charming things as that the Rape of Nanking was "a few deaths." I can see where the Chinese are coming from there. Also, they're not all dead and buried, and many of the ones that are were buried with full military honours rather than dumped into a pit by the side of a road like their victims.

Did you ever ask your grandparents about the Japanese? I heard enough stories from my parents to know why I shouldn't ask. And not just old Chinese folks, it's old Koreans, old Filipinos, old Vietnamese, etc.

Evil Tim 08-07-2012 03:12 PM

I recall hearing that British troops in Singapore were told to shoot female nurses if they couldn't be evacuated in time because that would be better than what the Japanese would do to them. Japan's spent seventy years pretending that it was the victim of the Second World War because of the two atomic bombs, conveniantly forgetting a list of atrocities that only Stalin's purges can compare to.

Unfortunately, it's going to get worse before it gets better. With survivors and eyewitnesses dying out and conservative elements controlling what young people learn over there, who knows what they'll be learning in Japanese schools in fifty years.

funkychinaman 08-07-2012 03:22 PM

Okay, back to movies and video games.

Yes, let's do that.

I've just finished watching Total Recall and wow this was a bad idea. A lot of ok visual effects. TOO MANY lens flares. The first 5 minutes of the movie was this strobe light effect that almost gave me a seizure. The ENTIRE police force uses Kriss SMGs and Rhino revolvers.

I've started replaying the Uncharted series. Almost done with the second one

I would've thought all the criticism that the lastStar Trek film got would've made filmmakers reconsider on lens flare.

Swordfish941 08-07-2012 09:14 PM

I just beat Borderlands today!! :) Now I have to wait a few more months for the next one. :(

Uncharted gets better and better with each installment. Hopefully ND can continue this trend with the eventual Uncharted 4.

I bought The Killer and Last Action Hero yesterday

I really like The Killer. I'll probably end up buying many more "Heroic Bloodshed" films.

I'm a bit surprised no one has tried making an American version of The Killer yet. It's a great story, but it's a foreign film and a bit dated.

A remake would be horrible. Theyd either add a whole bunch of stupid shit or take away / change essential details.

However, remaking it might not be such a bad idea if someone like Johnnie To were to do it.

I was just about to point that out: it depends on who does it.

Damn, I cannot wait until Season 3 of "Strike Back" starts airing:

My understanding is that the idea was shopped around Hollywood for a while, but nobody could agree on how to do it. Considering how much Hollywood remakes tend to suck, I'm actually glad that they never got around to it.

funkychinaman 08-08-2012 02:05 AM

Remakes of foreign movies have been okay of late. (The Departed, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) What they have in common is good source material and a good director. (Martin Scorcese and David Fincher, respectively.)

The Wierd It 08-08-2012 08:57 AM

So I saw the multiplayer trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II yesterday. Still hasn't made me start wanting it yet.

What if I told you that Price comes back to life and dies again and then comes back to life in the end

BlackIce_GTS 08-08-2012 01:41 PM

That would be great, because I totally even remember any of the characters names, because Black Ops had a great story that made all kinds of sense.

I'm actually still playing it, because it's the only game my friend and I are almost equally good at. MW3 didn't have vs. bots, so we never got into that.

funkychinaman 08-08-2012 01:58 PM

I'll be happy if they can just get Sam Worthington to stick to one accent.

k9870 08-08-2012 05:33 PM

I want BO2, its different, treyarch actually likes trying new things, the ability to have different endings, different stories based on what you do, even the abiloity to play as rts rather than fps, all added.

Let's just hope they make sure those assholes at Pi Studios who made Blowtorch & Corkscrew are not allowed anywhere near it.

He's great at ensemble casts and has serious geek cred. And if he doesn't do it, you can always give it to this guy:

http://cdn.screenrant.com/wp-content...boot-story.jpg

And base the film off the New 52 Justice League origin. That would be an awesome film.
